From the series Overlap (Dance), 2012
Indian ink and graphite on paper, 70 x 100 cm
Professional soldiers and women from the bondage scene intertwine in Overlap (dance). The intersections of their bodies show vulnerable nudity and armored defence. The upgraded combat suits appear as a zoomorphic, ornamental protective shell. The stereotypical series of sex and violence is only repeated externally in the four sheets, the internal structures show potentially constant transformations. A fundamental approach of Stratmann consists in the coupling of detailed observation, confrontational interlocking and imaginative (re)forming.
